With Battle Ground Lake being stocked recently with trout I decided to brave the scattered showers and breezy weather. I trailered my boat and launched at 12:30. I immediately noticed that there was hardly any surface activity from rising fish. A few shore fishermen at the boat dock stated that the trout were being finicky, but the Bluegill were providing steady action for the kids. I launched and started trolling a Mag Lip 2.0 (orange with black spots) on one rod and a 1/8oz Panther Martin Spinner (Black body, Gold Blade) on the other. I did one lap around the lake with no strikes. Hmm... Not promising. I did two passes down the middle of the lake with nothing to show for it. I switched out the Panther Martin Spinner for another 2.0 Mag Lip (Frog Pattern) and continued trolling. Another pass and no action. I decided to switch tactics and go for bass. I put on a small floating Rapala in fire tiger pattern and started hitting likely spots on the far side of the lake. 45 minutes of casting later saw four small bass, but since I had forgotten my anchor (I had planned to troll), the breeze kept blowing my boat around. I put out my Mag Lip plugs again and did one more lay around the lake. Nada. I called it and headed back to the dock at 2:30. All in all, poor fishing for trout, but even with the wind and scattered showers it was a good day to be on the water. I'm guessing the barometric pressure was affecting the trout activity. Oh well, I'll be back at it next weekend.
