Headed out a little later than the last few trips. Started fishing around 4pm. Started with a couple perch crank baits (again) along the lily pads in deeper water (16-40). Weeds are thick. Hard to troll. Not alot of open water above the weeds in less than 20' fow. Halfway along the lily field I moved to deep water to see if the Rainbows were starting to bite yet. Trolled towards the pullouts in Tum Tum. Not a bite in a hour. I'm not killing myself trying to find the fish, so headed home. Water temp still 65.5 F. I'm thinking it's a jig/bobber situation right now. Maybe get yardwork done and out of the way. Lake should start cooling this week with daytime highs getting lower. No bites again.

Have you thought about jigging the edge of the weeds? I have had pretty good success out on the Arm ripping jigs through weeds; not sure why I haven't gone to Long to do it. Trolling the weed edges worked good into late summer but I would think working the edges with a jig may be the ticket at least until the weeds start to die and the bait fish move out of them.

I was being lazy and just trying my normal trolling methods. I have an uncle in Minnesota who does alot of slip bobbers with a jig for walleye in the weeds. I think I'll hang the troll up for a bit and start jigging. I want to find easy fishing again fo convince my son to come out and "catch" instead of fishing. He''s used to catching not fishing. Spoiled. Traditionally this time of year trolling is on fire and the stringers consist of bass, perch, crappie, now walleye and trout. But the lake is alot cooler than it is this year. Thanks Mark for the tip and Bazz your right, not every day is great. Sure nice weather though.
