I headed down to Merwin for my first fishing trip of the year with my friend Warren. I think we were the 5th or 6th boat to arrive in the morning. We got the boat launched and headed straight across the lake and to the left. I put rods from the top down to 15 feet to start. We saw action within 5 minutes of getting the gear in the water. I would say the sweet spot in the morning was at 10 feet trolling 1.2-1.3 mph. The bite seemed to die down a bit, so we made a move around 11 in the morning. We made a move toward the dam, and with a little searching, we marked a school that was 20-25ft. I set the rods to 18ft, and it was on. We definitely hooked a bunch and lost a bunch. The weather was perfect, I ran into the Merwin man out on the water. Great way to start the first fishing trip of the year!

I don't know how you got away from the squawfish. We fished 2 days in June, miles of water, depth didn't matter, 15 -60' , no kokanee, and 25 squawfish. All the usual kokanee gear.
