About the only time we eat breakfast is on vacation and because today would be our first outing for 2025 we thought we'd pretend we were back in Minnesota. . met us at 10:00am and I cooked Belgian waffles and we had them with butter, real maple syrup and whipped cream. What a treat.

Better late than never! The lake's season has been open a few weeks and we finally got to fish today. Our time was brief but all was great.
We fished 11-2 under cloudy skies with light to moderate wind. A couple of kayakers, a couple SUPs, and two other fishing boats and us. There were a few shore fishermen, but overall the lake felt like we had it to ourselves, except for a busy osprey.

We did the trout troll and had success right away. P. was the first with a bite, followed by K and then me. We had quite a few bites that didn't button up, a good amount of fish that we got a couple cranks on and a few even to the boat and lost them. Ultimately though, we had a fine mostly catch-and-release day. K. boated 2 rainbow and 2 large mouth bass peeps. I got 4 trout and 3 bass. P. was big man around town as he boated 7 trout and 1 bass. P. can claim largest bass. I can claim the best trout....over 16" and really wide. A real good fish. I also can claim the birds nest that ended my trolling day. Fortunately it happened as we were headed back to the launch ramp so I didn't miss out on much. I gave P. and K. every opportunity to best my big fish trophy but they failed.

We'd eaten late and so much that we elected not to get out the BBQ, hotdogs and potato salad. We all said we were content to skip lunch. For the first time in many, many years, K and I brought home two trout. We don't care for their taste, but we thought we should be sure....so I pan fried them for dinner. They were certainly better than most trout, but still not for our taste buds. So we will continue as in all past seasons....to turn them loose to grow bigger for next time.
