Well, it started out as a 2 being in the hot sun, fishing from shore. Irregular breeze and occasionally the sun would go behind a cloud, and the fish werent biting until maybe 6:30pm. That seems to be the start of most feed times on area lakes. but I also realized why they were nibbling and not biting. I was trying worms with green powerbait eggs.... they could care less about worm. The worm usually came back untouched but the powerbait egg would always be further up the hook. I had set it right on the eye of the hook. I dont like powerbait eggs they are too firm, or Im fishing them wrong. I'll have to look it up. But anyways, GREEN, that is what they were going for. So I switched to a size 14 treble and put green powerbait on and started catching fairly regularly. The first I hooked in the lip, a 9-incher, and released it, next two were decent and had to keep em cause that hook was embedded deep, all three points, each time. So on the stringer and into the water they went. While waiting for fish number 4 to bite I checked my fish an a dang ole turtle was chomping on one. Luckily it was going after the gills so I walked to the car and brough my cooler over that had ice & water in it and plopped it in. I had 4 turtles constantly over near me for the rest of the evening with their lil heads poking up out of the water. Didnt get another bite for about an hour so mixed yellow & green power bait in a swirl and that did the trick. Got number 4 and 5 between 8:00 to 8:45. Had my 5 total for the daily limit and went home. I thank the Hoopfest organizers for making an even that brings most people off the lake. Wasnt many fishing the lake today. Going to tie up some green flies and come back soon with my inflatable pontoon so maybe I wont fall prey to the mosquitos and no-see-ems as much
