I was a little bit downstream from Nine Mile Falls Damn on the east bank of the river (Spokane House Interpretive Center). Got there around 8:30am or so and decided to scope it out first. The gate was locked so parked at the gate and walked west to the river. Decent bank access in multiple areas but very shallow for quite a ways out currently. Probably still shallow enough to fish it and maybe just shallow enough to wade in but VERY rocky. About midway and down toward the boat launch had quite a bit of top activity and they sounded like some decent sized fish so I decided to go back to the car and get my hear and try bottom fishing from shore. I ran into a park ranger as he was unlocking the gate and learned the gates are unlocked from, I think 10am (coulda been 11am) until 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays (call and verify cause I forget). This allows you to park at the interpretive center so its less of a walk to the midway point. I confirmed no additional rules for fishing that what is in the regulations and this section falls under Long Lake so it is NOT selective gear in this area.

The problem with fishing this area from shore is that due to the rocky river bottom, and the size of the rocks, your sinker will drop down and get stuck between the rocks. I could only get free about half the time and after redoing my whole setup for the 5th time I decided to leave. Would be a great place to troll and drift cause as I'd said, there was some really nice toppers. Like the loudest I've heard this year on any body of water I've been to and it they kept topping the entire time I was there which was until 1:30pm. I don't know if I ever got a bite cause with the sinker wedged in the rocks even if I had gotten bites I probably wouldn't have known. I was using a slip sinker as I normally do but if the line was bound it wouldn't have moved.

This area does get a lot of boats, kayaks, and paddleboarders due to its proximity from the launch which I really whish they would take a second and learn boating and launch etiquette .....like not beaching themselves on the shore or rocks in near someone is trying to fish and being loud as all hell. This area was great until the paddleboarders showed up. Very tranquil, couldnt hear the road noise at all from HWY 231 and couldnt hear people launching at the 231 boat launch either. I will have to come back here in the fall or late fall with my fly rod if the shallower east side of the river gets exposed. Or made made out. The deeper areas seem to be the west bank (privately owned) or middle. The east side of the river was under about 2 feet of water for the first (west by southwest) half of the area. I tried flies and water bobber in the area too before I left but no luck. Im marking GPS hot spots on where the topping activity occurred.
