Riffe lake is very hit or miss for me. I carried my inflatable kayak to the lake from an area that is closed. It started out as a miss, the first area I fished had a lot of salmon 2 years ago but not a hint of a fish today. I moved back towards where I launched and got a big hit and it turned out to be a nice smallmouth bass in an area where I totally didn't expect them. Another big fish broke off my spinner and after that I caught a huge pikeminnow. I'd say 3-5 pounds and I didn't know they were in that lake. I fished for a couple more hours and then the trout started biting and I caught a few big, beautiful ones (not sure if they are rainbows or cutts but I didn't see the slash marks) and then caught some more pikeminnow on the way back to the launch. I kept the big pikeminnow as I don't want him eating young trout and the landlocked salmon in the lake. The water was surprisingly warm, it felt like it was in the 60's or very high 50's. Overall a great day despite the difficulty of getting to the lake, getting rained on, lots of snags and lots of mud.
