Took the day off in pursuit of any late silvers that might be left. Started at 7:00 on the Cispus side just to see if there was any trout. The amount of squawfish (sorry, NORTHERN PIKEMINNOW) was horrible. I proceeded back around to the Cowlitz side at 9:00. Water vis was OVER 8 feet. Only saw 3-4 salmon roll, so I thought this run might be done. I dropped anchor where I saw one roll. I tried spinners, plugs, and eggs w/bobber. One takedown on the eggs, but was airballed. No hits on the spinners or plugs. I had one thing left to try, and it was funky. A pink "steelhead" worm tipped (if you can believe it, but please hear me out) a sand shrimp tail. This rig was fished WEIGHTLESS in 15-20 feet of water. I stopped counting fish at 12. Not all fish were bright,(COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHY THE BRIGHTEST FISH WERE BIIIIIIIIG NATIVES THAT I HAD TO THROW BACK?) but I took home two bbq quality hens 12-15lbs, and four jacks. Now if I could just get that pink worm to catch steelhead like it catches silvers, I'd be in business!
