There are two ways to get to Dusty Lake in the Quincy WRA. The short way is to hike a short but steep half mile to the east end of the lake. The "scenic" way is to hike a solid three miles of flat sagebrush country to the west end of the lake..

I chose the west end on this day for a hike with my loyal four legged mutt, "Gracie". It was a pleasant, "Spring is coming" sort of day. The temp. was about 50 degrees, the wind was only about 5 MPH from the west, and the skies were mostly sunny.

Arriving at the lake I only saw two other fishermen, both of whom were float tubers. The one I spoke to was trolling a flatfish and had not caught anything. However, he said he had been here a few times since the opener and had averaged one to two fish a trip, a mix of Brown and Rainbow Trout to 21 inches.

I was throwing around spinners and spoons myself in a catch and release effort. I was fortunate enough to hook and land one fish, a solid 13 inch Brown trout. It was the nicest Brown I had caught in a few years and really made the trip complete!

In short, this is probably not the place to go for a limit. But at least this Spring, it might be worthwhile for a little solitude, a nice piece of scenery, and the promise of a good fish or two!
