We rent a condo on Park Lake about this time each year. For the past few years the fishing for rainbows has been very good, bordering on fabulous. This year however was a disappointment. Although the locals reported that it had been an exemplary spring season, the five days I fished were very slow with only 2-3 fish to show for 8 hours or more of fishing each day. One day I even got skunked completely. The weather was hot all week which may have been a contributing factor.
My best day was six fish but I started at 4:30 am, fished most of the day and went back out again about 8:30 pm 'til dark. All the fish I caught were 12-13" and included a couple of browns.
I tried shallow and deep, slow and fast, lures and bait (worms,
sculpins and powerbait). If I had to say what worked best it would be my standby, a size 5 or 7 Rapala in silver and black, trolled on the surface very early or very late at a medium fast speed. Surprisingly, what did NOT produce a single fish after many hours of fishing over several days was a wedding ring spinner tipped with a worm.
Other fishermen I spoke with were having similar luck, though a
couple of older gentlemen trolling pop-gear and worms deep had picked up four fish one morning. I just don't enjoy fishing with pop-gear, especially if its weighted down.
Good luck!
