I caught the biggest smallmouth bass I've ever seen (15 1/2") at the pond in Nisqually John Canyon. The water is dirty and shallow, and the outlet to the river is knee-deep, if that.
In the river proper I haven't been catching much. I think the dirt in the water is the culprit. The fish can't see more than a foot or two, maybe.
On the rare days when the river is higher and clearer, we do a lot better.
