Went out to the Spokane Arm solo because all of my buddies were busy. I gave the day a 5 because the weather was gorgeous and I caught a bunch of walleyes. I began the morning in Porcupine Bay. I started at the north end on the Mccoy's flat. I slowly drug my jigs down river at .4 mph in 35 to 45 FOW. I picked up 7 in porky and then went upriver. I went up above buoy 5 but didn't stay long. The water is down 24 feet and gets pretty shallow the higher you go. I know the channel very well and I scared myself when I got into 4 FOW. The water level seems lower this year compared to last year. If you go above buoy 3 you better know where the channel is or you risk hitting something. That will surely be expensive. I eventually found a deep section of the main river channel that was holding a bunch of smalleyes. I again slowly pulled jigs down river in 50+ FOW. All told I caught 23 eyes. I never intended to keep any but if I had, I would have only kept 6 that would have been worth cleaning. None of the eyes were longer than 19 inches so I didn't take any photos.

Thanks for another encouraging report. I know how tricky things can get in the upper river, glad you made it out with no trouble.

Thanks for the report Mark, we’re on the fence between the arm and Rufus the first week of March.

Rufus has not been good to me the last two springs. I went the end of April and through May. We caught some eyes but really had to work for them. In previous years, we spanked the eyes pretty good. I may need to go earlier. The beginning of April may be the ticket. We used to have a hard time keeping fish because they were all too big. That was a nice problem to have.

Thank you for the report Mark. Love that picture with Cayuse mountain in the background. Decades of fond memories from there to the dam. I agree with you; this years water drop seems like it's a week and a half ahead of last years levels. Will be nice to get out again after this yukon nastiness clears out and it gets decent again. Good time to get some abnoxious things done, namely taxes...
